Overview

Job Summary: Functions as a member of the genetics health care team to provide pediatric and adult genetic counseling, prenatal counseling, cancer counseling and teratogen counseling services by obtaining comprehensive patient/family medical histories, communicating with and educating patients/families, providing psychosocial assessment, support and resource identification, and implementing/facilitating the case management plan. Participates in educational programs by designing and conducting formal and informal programs. Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating department programs and goals as well as supervises genetic counseling students. Participate in management and coordination of clinical research studies when available and if applicable. Play an active role in hospital wide multidisciplinary case conferences. Work to implement genetic counseling and appropriate testing throughout health system following best practice standards. Serve as an integral member of relevant accreditation committees.

 

Required Education: Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited genetic counseling program.

 

Preferred Education: NoneRequired

 

Certification: Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) or board eligible.

 

Required License: None

 

Required Experience: Fulfills the expectations for a genetic counselor as outlined by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
