Pulmonary Medical Care Unit and Pulmonary Medical Progressive Care Unit
PMPC/PMCU is a fast paced and team focused 39 bed progressive care and medsurg telemetry unit. 23 progressive care and 16 medsurg telemetry beds. PMPC offers a unique opportunity not afforded in most hospitals, specializing in acutely ill respiratory patient population. This critically important subspecialty affords nurses a unique opportunity to gain experiences not offered anywhere else at Mission, outside of the ICU setting.
PMPC specializes in vented tracheostomy patients and vent weaning. Our unit also cares for Chest tubes, Rescue Bipap, fresh tracheostomies, decortications of the lung, high flow oxygen administration, home vents, cpaps, pulse ox studies, etc. PMPC and PMCU nurses are equipped in several unit specific competencies that uniquely prepare them for easy transition into ICU settings. PMPC manages several drips as well, including heparin, Cardizem, insulin, amiodarone, dopamine, and now taking low dose Precedex drip patients from the ICU.
We offer 3:1 ratios on our progressive care side and 4:1 on our Medsurg tele floor. We have a dedicated respiratory therapist and pharmacist that remain on the unit as well.
We practice a team based focused care model including the Nurses, Physicians, case managers, social workers, pharmacists, house supervisors, PT/OT, and others. Role Summary: Responsible and accountable for daily operations of a designated clinical area. Advocates and allocates resources to promote efficient, effective, safe, quality and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. Integrates clinical, human resource, and financial data to support decision making. Promotes research and integrates evidence-based practice into clinical, operational, and leadership processes. Ensures compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
Required Education: Master's Degree in Nursing or BSN with MBA, MHA or related field; or by currently signed commitment letter. Those new to the role must become actively enrolled within 6 months and complete within 3 years. Any exemptions from the master's degree requirement must be approved by CNO Council.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Nursing.
Required License/Certifications: Must have and maintain current licensure as registered nurse with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. eNLC (Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact) license may apply, licensee should confirm with NCBON.
Certification: National Certification in area of specialty within one year of accepting the role. Certification may be in leadership or area of clinical practice. Those actively pursuing degree must obtain national certification within 1 year of graduation.Certificate: BLS Healthcare Provider
Preferred License/Certifications: None
Required Experience: A minimum of five years of recent nursing experience; 2 years in relevant clinical hospital experience with demonstrated leadership skills
Preferred Experience: Previous leadership experience
