Learning Experiences

 

Learning experiences include:

  • Providing care for MyHealthyLife™ and Asheville Project™ patients in the areas of diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, depression, asthma, anticoagulation therapy and/or COPD
  • Providing care for patients in multiple Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner-managed clinics
  • Selecting anticoagulant therapy for patients who are new to treatment; providing management of patients on traditional warfarin therapy, those who need bridge assessment and management and those who are taking direct oral anticoagulants
  • Providing distribution and ongoing MTM services and access support for uninsured and underinsured patients in a Medication Assistance Program
  • Teaching in an American Diabetes Association-accredited diabetes education program
  • Participation in a Teaching and Learning Curriculum
  • Opportunities to present formal education to medical residents and other health professionals
  • Conducting outcomes evaluations studies for ambulatory care pharmacy programs
  • Conducting continuous quality improvement projects, such as Medication Use Evaluations
  • Precepting pharmacy students, educating family practice residents and participating in weekly didactic sessions, seminars and journal clubs
  • Providing transitions of care support for patients being discharged from the hospital who are identified as having medication related issues
  • Serving as the pharmacist and preceptor for pharmacy students at Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry free evening clinic
  • Option of participating in an international health curriculum that focuses on improving the health of the people of Honduras and includes a medical mission trip with the organization Shoulder-to-Shoulder (resident responsible for travel expenses)
  • Serving as camp counselors at a diabetes camp for children (as schedule permits)
